What is Spinal Decompression Therapy?
Do you often experience back pain and discomfort? If so, it may be time to schedule an appointment with one of our spinal decompression doctors in Grand Rapids, MI. Unlike other treatment options, spinal decompression therapy is non-invasive and doesn’t require surgical intervention.
Here’s what you need to know about
.Spinal Decompression is FDA Cleared
Spinal decompression therapy helps us create the optimal healing environment, regardless of whether you have a bulging, herniated, or degenerated disc. This type of treatment is also cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which means it’s both safe and effective for treating your back issues.
It Treats the Real Cause of Back Pain
The underlying cause of back pain is most likely the lost function of one or more spinal discs. Unlike other areas of the body, the spinal discs rely on a pump mechanism to receive the water, oxygen, and nutrients they need to remain healthy. Otherwise, they risk weakening over time to the point of degeneration.
Ideally, the pump mechanism should work when you move or bend your body in any way. However, trauma and sustained stress can cause the pump mechanism to not work as it should. The
helps to restore this pump function. It’s Not a Quick Fix
There’s no such thing as a “quick fix” when it comes to restoring the function of your spinal discs. That’s why it’s important that you stick to the program that our spinal decompression doctors prescribe.
Our program may include:
- Spinal decompression
- Chiropractic spinal adjustments
- Whole foods supplements and collagen support
- Ice application
- Low-level cold laser therapy
- Exercise program
- Orthotics
The body possesses its own form of intelligence, especially in regards to healing. The spinal decompression procedure takes full advantage of the body’s natural healing ability so you can treat spinal issues and chronic back pain.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
During your appointment at Harrison Integrative Wellness Center, you’ll lay on a motorized table that’s controlled by a computer. While the upper half of the table remains stationary, the lower half will move to provide a gentle back stretch and relieve pressure on the vertebrae discs.
To ensure your safety and comfort during the procedure, we’ll place a harness around your hips and secure it to the lower half of the table. We’ll also fit your upper body with a harness and attach it to the upper part of the table.
As each spinal disc is decompressed, blood, oxygen, and nutrients are able to flow back into the discs. This helps to trigger the body’s natural healing ability. After several sessions, you may notice significant improvement in your level of pain, mobility, and overall well being. These are just some of the many benefits of spinal decompression.
